q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.5.1
beta.5.1 adds lights, particles, liquids and ropes, runs physics and particles live in q0player, and fixes a long list of fla imports. strokes get square ends and chosen corners, rotation tweens turn around their anchor, and the editor stays responsive with heavy masks.
lights
an opt-in tool: settings > extra tools > light editor. lights a project already has keep shining while it is off.
- point lights and spotlights that really light the stage: what is drawn under the light layer is multiplied by the light reaching it, so a lamp shows the colours under it instead of washing them out. layers above the light layer, a hud for example, stay as drawn.
- darkness and an ambient colour per timeline: deep blue for night, black for a cave.
- colour, brightness, reach and softness; spotlights add direction, cone width and a soft cone edge. glow adds a halo, and flicker makes a light waver.
- lights can ride along with an object and are keyframed with easing.
- nothing is baked: the editor, exports and q0player light every frame on the gpu.
particles
an opt-in tool: settings > extra tools > particle system.
- emitters spray fire, smoke, sparks, explosions, magic, galaxies, portals, snow, rain, confetti, bubbles, fireflies, fountains, electricity, or copies of a library item.
- simple mode starts from a preset with the settings that matter most. pro mode shows every setting with its ± variance, and size, spin and colour run from a start to an end value over each particle's life.
- particles are baked into ordinary keyframes on a layer of their own, with their drawings in a library folder of their own, so a bake can be redone without touching anything else.
physics
- liquids: streams of particles that flow, splash, hold together in drops and push floating bodies around. thickness, stiffness and stickiness are settings.
- links: ropes, chains, springs, hinges and welds tie one object to another. ropes and chains wobble along as their objects move; length, stiffness, damping and a breaking force are settings, and a link can be drawn as a plain line, a chain or a coil.
- hull and outline colliders follow an object's real artwork. an outline follows a drawn line instead of filling the space around it.
- the solver runs at a simulation rate in hz, so the same settings behave the same at any frame rate. canvas-edge collisions can be turned off or limited to chosen sides.
- previews run on a thread of their own, so a long range or a big liquid never freezes the editor.
q0player and q0lang
- worlds and emitters marked live travel in the movie, and q0lang drives them while it plays:
q0physics.start!,push!,teleport!,gravity!,cut!and more, andq0particles.start!,stop!,burst!,move!andclear!. q0light.on!,off!,move!,color!,brightness!,size!anddarkness!change lights at runtime.- the q0lang documentation is reorganized, with a page of recipes and a downloadable guide.
drawing and animation
- strokes can end round, flat or square, and turn their corners round, sharp or cut. very sharp corners are cut so shaky freehand lines cannot grow spikes.
- a selected straight line has grips on both ends: drag one to turn and stretch the line; shift keeps it at multiples of 45 degrees.
- motion tweens turn around the object's transform anchor, so a rotation around a fixed point stays fixed instead of swinging along a chord. numeric rotation in properties uses the same anchor.
- artwork can live anywhere: the paper sets the output size, not where you can draw. shapes can start off the stage.
- the text tool's caret lands exactly where the glyphs are drawn, the text box hugs its text, and on touch screens a box under the on-screen keyboard moves into view.
fla import
- groups no longer carry their position twice, which threw artwork far off its place.
- symbols resolve by their real library names, including names with stray spaces, so objects are no longer swapped.
- bitmap fills, rectangle and oval primitives, jpeg bitmaps, variable-width strokes, stroke ends and corners, and brightness tints import instead of disappearing.
- legacy binary fla text imports with its fonts and colours, so scenes with text no longer lose everything after it.
- documents over 64 mb and libraries of tens of thousands of items import. drawings that do not fit the project's limits are reported instead of dropped silently.
- a mask layer locked in the fla opens locked with its mask preview on, so it clips as it did in animate. guide layers stay hidden, and buttons import as single-frame symbols.
performance and fixes
- heavy masks the gpu cannot cut are now drawn on a background thread. the stage keeps the last picture while the new one renders instead of freezing on every change.
- characters the interface fonts lack, such as chinese, japanese, korean and symbols, show through system fonts instead of boxes.
- window and menu shadows on dark themes were nearly invisible because of an overflow; they show again.
- some things are only found by those who knock on the right door.
file compatibility
the current readers support q1s v42 and q0s v41. projects are saved in the oldest version that can hold what they use: only projects with particles, liquids, links, live physics or transform anchors need beta.5.1. update both applications; older builds reject files that use the new features.

choose x64 for intel/amd windows computers and arm64 for windows on arm. the editor and player have independent per-user installers. on android, open the apk and allow installs from your browser or file manager when asked; it installs over beta.5. architecture-specific build information and sha256 checksums accompany the release.

the windows installers were built from the tagged commit after formatting, workspace tests and strict clippy passed. the android apks are arm64 builds of the same commit.
